ISO 9001:2015 – Gestire le MODIFICHE per sostenere il business
Gennaio 11, 2016Dow Corning is involved in developing silicon based flame retardant. Recently the company has put on the market a liquid siloxane for polycarbonate (PC) and developed new flame retardants for polycarbonate and polyamide (PA) within a EU-funded project.
DOW CORNING 40-001
Dow Corning® 40-001 is a liquid organo-functional siloxane recommended for PC. Accoring to the company the product has an excellent miscibility with polycarbonate matrix. Besides, benefits includes improvement of flame retardancy performances (anti-dripping and flaming time reduction) while maintaining transparency with low haziness of the final PC compound (see TDS).

FR GREENSI (FP7 EU-funded project)
CORDIS has published the final report for the EU-funded (FP7) project FR GREENSI (New silicon-based halogen-free flame retardants for greener plastics). According to the aim of the project silicone based flame retardants were developed for polycarbonate and polyamide compounds which are widely used in many applications such as transport, E&E, mechanical, industrial components ecc.
Flame retatardant PC based compounds were produced by using a new developed vinyl-silane combined with phoshorous and an undisclosed functionality with the scope of achieving EN 45545 railway stadards fire performance, whilst silicon based phosphorous free flame retardants were developed and used in combination with co-additives in PA 6 30 % glass reiforced compounds, to overcome the drawbacks of the phosphorous based halogen free flame retardants.
